Another Indian Oil day has come and it set me off thinking about earlier days when I was an active part of this giant enterprise in India.
nnnnI look at myself in the mirror and not really feel that ancient…but when I look back on my early days as a Field Officer or Sales officer I feel ancient.
nnnnA lot has changed in the decades that have gone by.
nnnnThe biggest difference is the computer and the internet.
nnnnWhen I joined IBP in the late eighties, the Computer was something of mystery and awe. It had a separate room with air conditioning, you entered the room by removing your footwear after due permission from the ” Competent Authority”.
nnnnIt was mostly used by the finance department and the entries would be checked manually also. 😀
nnnnFor us in the field the computer statement was a nuisance. You would get a dealer account statement for each month a few months later after that month got over. We were supposed to sit with the dealer and reconcile the statement with the physical entries. We hated this and frequently there were heated exchanges with he account department.
